The National Road Safety Hackathon 2026, organised by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), RBG Labs, IIT Madras, is focused on the theme “AI in Road Safety”, aiming to encourage the development of innovative, technology-driven solutions to improve road safety through artificial intelligence. Participants are invited to attempt any one of the three topics: DriveLegal: This tool provides location-specific information on traffic laws, violations, and fine schedules, integrating national rules with state and local enforcement regulations to improve compliance with road safety rules. RoadWatch: The tool enables citizens to monitor road quality, track public spending, and report issues to the responsible authorities, increasing the transparency in road infrastructure. RoadSoS: The tool provides location-based access to nearby trauma centres, ambulance services, vehicle rescue services, police stations and emergency contacts during road accidents. Eligibility Criteria: All students, engineers, and problem solvers enthusiastic about ethics in technology are eligible to participate. No professional qualifications are necessary. Minimum age for participation is 15. Team Composition: Participation is open to individuals as well as teams. There is no restriction on the number of participants in a team; individuals or groups of any size may take part in the hackathon. Awards: The winners will receive the following cash prizes, and all participants who successfully clear Stage 1 and submit their entries will be awarded a participation certificate. Selected participants may also have the opportunity to receive job or internship offers. 1st Prize - ₹ 50,000 2nd Prize - ₹ 30,000 3rd Prize - ₹ 20,000 Competition Timelines: Registration and submissions open on 11th March 2026. Registrations ends by 15th April 2026. Submissions close on 31st May 2026. Competition Guidelines: Stage 1: Participants/ Teams can submit their solutions through code in any programming language of their choice. They are also required to submit a presentation consisting of 7 slides, including “Welcome” and “Thank you” explaining their solution. The participants need to share the entire code and relevant details like the list of software packages used and assumptions as a word document. Registrations and Submissions are only accepted through Unstop. Participants and teams alike can make only one submission. A team can make only one submission out of the 3-topic explained above. Stage 2: Shortlisted teams will present their solution to a live jury at the IITM campus. The exact date and schedule of the presentation will be intimated to the qualifying teams.
