Fellow Cyfrin Updraft students, have you already been building out projects from ideas conceived on your own? If yes, Sweet! Have you participated in hackathons or worked to contribute to a protocol? If yes, Sweet! If no to both, then this hackathon is for you. Consider this hackathon a chance to put yourself in an environment where you have a limited time span and have to focus on building out an idea of your own as far as possible. Why participate in Hackathons? In your journey as a Blockchain developer, there are certain experiences that will likely grant you insight over the potential and value of this industry. Recreating the infamous 'Reentrancy Attack', the exploit that split the Ethereum community into two forks should showcase how simplistic (in hindsight) yet dangerous exploits can be. When you build out a project that you conceived or with someone else, you find out where you stand in terms of technical skills in how well you can contribute. Hackathons are extremely effective environments to assess your skills and even improve upon them immensely and rapidly. And over subsequent hackathons, as you improve your ability to quickly integrate new technologies, you'll come to be exposed to the current limitations of the tools in blockchain tech but also hopefully derive unique ideas that you could potentially found a company on. The finish line or 'graduation' of hackathons would be an in person hackathon where you interact with the professional blockchain community at large where you can appraise your ideas on how viable they are, understand the general culture of the community, what they value and what they aren't valuing. But this hackathon is just for those who are taking their first steps and will be carried out in a slightly unorthodox manner. First, let us revisit Patrick Collins' video on [Why Web3 Matters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JeRq7Gwj5Y). Long story short, this hackathon is themed around 'Unbreakable promises' and each track will be a potential customer for your dapp. The motivation here is to build with purpose and solve people's problems. Let us introduce our prospective customers!
