Hack The Horoscope:
Hack the Horoscope is a challenge for participants to design and develop innovative digital experiences using personality-driven design systems inspired by zodiac archetypes.
The competition focuses on translating personality traits into real UI/UX decisions, encouraging participants to balance creativity, usability, visual design, and functional implementation within a limited time.
Participants will explore how emotional tone, interaction behavior, and visual identity can influence product design while building intuitive and impactful digital solutions.
Event Concept:
In this challenge, zodiac signs are used strictly as design personality frameworks, not for astrology or prediction purposes.
Each zodiac represents a unique design experience such as bold and energetic, calm and immersive, minimal and premium, playful, or highly functional.
Every team will receive a Zodiac Personality Card, which includes:
Personality keywords
Mood and emotional tone
Interaction behavior guidelines
Visual design cues
Example Personality Interpretations:
Aries — Bold layouts, fast navigation, strong call-to-actions, energetic flow
Pisces — Soft visuals, fluid transitions, immersive experiences
Taurus — Minimal, grounded, luxurious, tactile UI
Participants must interpret these traits into practical UI/UX design decisions.
Competition Structure: Round 1 – Briefing & Theme Assignment:
Teams will receive:
A real-world product problem statement
Event rules and judging criteria
Assigned Zodiac Personality Card
Organizers will conduct a short briefing explaining how personality traits translate into design decisions including interaction patterns, layout systems, and emotional tone.
Round 2 – Design & Development Sprint (Main Round):
Duration: 2 Hours
Teams must:
Design a user interface aligned with their assigned zodiac personality
Maintain usability and accessibility principles.
Build a functional prototype or working interface
Allowed Tools:
Figma
HTML, CSS, JavaScript
React (if permitted by organizers)
Participants are encouraged to balance creativity with real-world usability.
Round 3 – Final Submission & Evaluation:
Teams must submit:
Working deployed Code
Optional PPT
Optional design files
Participants will solve a real-world product challenge provided by Nirvana.
The final solution must demonstrate:
Clear user flow
Personality-driven visual and interaction design
Functional implementation
Practical usability and engaging experience
The evaluation prioritizes meaningful design decisions rather than purely aesthetic output.
Base Resources Provided:
Organizers will provide:
Pre-built wireframe layout
Starter code files (if applicable)
Zodiac Personality Sheet with defined design guidelines
Track Division:
To ensure fair competition, participants will be divided into two tracks:
Track 1 — 1st & 2nd Year Students
Track 2 — 3rd & 4th Year Students
Evaluation Criteria:
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
Personality Integration — Effective translation of zodiac traits into UI/UX decisions
Usability & User Experience — Clarity, accessibility, and navigation flow
Visual Design Quality — Layout, hierarchy, consistency, and aesthetics
Functionality — Working prototype and interaction behavior
Innovation & Creativity — Unique interpretation within constraints
Shortlisted teams may be required to present their solution to judges.
