The Great Indian Hackathon (GIH) 2026 (www.greatindianhackathon.in) is a beginner-friendly, fully online hackathon designed to help students kickstart their journey in Android App Development. Focused on Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, this hackathon follows a learn-first, hack-later approach, ensuring even beginners can confidently participate and build their first project. Participants will undergo structured training, mentorship sessions, and a hands-on hackathon experience to develop real-world Android applications. Eligibility Open to all No prior coding experience required (beginner-friendly) Participants must have a laptop and stable internet connection Must be willing to attend pre-hackathon sessions (internship/workshops) Participation allowed in individual format alone Hackathon Theme / Problem Statements Domain: Android App Development Participants will build an Android application using Kotlin & Jetpack Compose Problem statements will be: Either open innovation-based, or Shared during the hackathon kickoff Competition Structure Pre-Hackathon Phase Keynote sessions by industry experts 5-Day Internship Program covering: Android Studio setup Jetpack Compose basics Navigation & UI design Gemini in Android Studio Access to MOOC learning resources Hackathon Phase Duration: 24 Hours Participants will build and submit a complete Android application Evaluation Phase Project evaluation by judges Shortlisting and winner announcement Duration Training / Internship: 5 Days Hackathon: 24 Hours Evaluation: Post-submission review Submission Guidelines Submit APK or Source Code (GitHub/Zip) Include a brief project description Optional: Demo video or presentation Judging Criteria Innovation & Creativity UI/UX Design Technical Implementation Use of modern Android tools (Jetpack Compose, Firebase) Overall usability and impact Rules All submissions must be original work created during the hackathon Plagiarism or use of pre-built templates/projects will lead to disqualification Teams must adhere to all deadlines and submission formats Use of open-source libraries is allowed with proper attribution Participants must maintain fair play and code of conduct The decision of judges will be final and binding Rewards & Perks Certificates for all participants Exciting prizes (gadgets, swags, goodies) Opportunity for paid internships Industry mentorship and networking Hands-on experience with Android development
