HackMatrix 2.0 is a flagship offline hackathon organized by NJACK, IIT Patna. It brings together top developers and tech enthusiasts to build innovative, deployable solutions to real-world challenges on a national stage.
The Challenges (Partnered with Jilo Health)
Teams will tackle one of three critical AI-driven healthcare problem statements. You can choose to build a solution for:
Track 1: Mobile-First Ambient AI Scribe: Build an AI scribe that captures doctor-patient conversations in real-time (Hindi + English) and converts unstructured speech into structured, FHIR-compliant clinical notes.
Track 2: AI-Powered Data Normalization Engine: Create an AI extraction layer that uses NLP to read unstructured health records (PDFs, lab reports, bills) and maps them to structured fields for hospital billing and claims processing.
Track 3: Indic Voice AI Patient Engagement: Develop a multilingual Voice AI platform that delivers automated patient follow-ups, health reminders in regional languages, and collects structured patient-reported data.
What You Need to Build
Depending on your chosen track, teams must build an end-to-end, functional MVP consisting of:
User Interface: A functional mobile app (for the Scribe), a data ingestion module (for Normalization), or a workflow builder (for the Voice platform).
Backend AI Pipeline: Clinical NLP, Speech-to-Text, or Voice AI models capable of processing multilingual audio or unstructured PDFs.
Structured Output System: FHIR mapping layers, revenue reconciliation logic, or clear reporting dashboards for hospital administrators.
Mentorship & Evaluation
Throughout the event, teams will have access to domain experts and undergo multiple progress checkpoints before a final pitch to the judges. You will be evaluated on:
Technical Architecture: End-to-end system functionality and UI usability.
AI Effectiveness: Accuracy of feature extraction and logical consistency of predictions.
Impact: Innovation, completeness of the prototype, and real-world scalability.
Eligibility & Team Size
Who Can Apply: Open to all currently enrolled undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognized institutes across India (all engineering, science, and technical disciplines welcome).
Team Size: 1 to 4 members. Individual participation is allowed!
Flexibility: Cross-college teams are permitted. You can only be part of one team/entry.
Offline Requirement: Shortlisted participants must be able to attend the final hackathon physically at the IIT Patna campus.
Hackathon Format
Round 1: Online Idea Submission: Register on Unstop and submit a brief proposal outlining your core idea, technical approach, and potential impact. (Submissions will be evaluated by our panel on innovation, feasibility, and clarity).
Round 2: Offline Finale (IIT Patna): Shortlisted top entries will be invited to campus! Build your functional prototype within the specified time window, get guidance from mentors, and pitch your final solution to the judges.
Judging Criteria
Innovation: Uniqueness of the idea and creative problem-solving.
Technical Implementation: Quality of the architecture, NLP/Speech-to-Text accuracy, and system design.
Feasibility & Scalability: Real-world viability in Indian healthcare settings (e.g., handling Hindi+English mix, scaling for SME hospitals).
Completeness & UX: Functionality of the prototype, ease of use for doctors/patients, and FHIR compliance/structured data output.
Presentation: Ability to clearly explain the approach, implementation, and impact.
Deliverables & Submission Guidelines
What to Build: A working prototype based on your chosen track (e.g., an Android/Web app, a Data Ingestion pipeline, or a Voice AI Engine) and a project presentation.
Code Requirements: You must submit a public GitHub (or equivalent) repository. It must include a detailed README with setup/usage instructions.
Transparency: Any external datasets, APIs, LLMs, or pre-trained NLP/Voice models used must be clearly documented. All code must be developed during the hackathon period.
How to Submit: All idea proposals and final submissions must be made directly through the Unstop Registration Link.
