Secret Cypher 3.0
Event Overview
Secret Cypher 3.0 is a fast-paced cryptography and word-association challenge inspired by the mechanics of strategy-based decoding games. The competition tests participants’ ability to think strategically, interpret clues, and collaborate effectively under time pressure.
Teams will compete in multiple rounds where one player acts as the Cipher Master and provides hints for hidden keywords. Teammates must decode the correct words using logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and association skills.
The objective is to identify your team’s secret keywords faster than other teams while avoiding incorrect or dangerous selections.
The event focuses on cryptographic thinking, strategic communication, teamwork, and quick decision-making.
Eligibility
Open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Participants from all branches and specializations are eligible.
Inter-college teams are allowed.
Inter-specialization teams are allowed.
Team Size
2–3 participants per team
Event Details
Event Name: Secret Cypher 3.0
Event Mode: On-Campus Competition
Event Date: 17 March 2026
Duration: 3 Hours
Competition Format
Round 1 — Qualifier Round
Teams will receive a grid of coded keywords.
Each team will have one Cipher Master who knows the secret keywords.
The Cipher Master provides one-word hints with a number indicating how many words relate to that hint.
Example:Hint: Space 3This means three keywords on the board relate to "Space".
Teams discuss and select the correct words based on the hints.
Teams identifying the maximum correct keywords in the least time advance to the next round.
Round 2 — Elimination Round
Difficulty increases with:
More complex word associations
Stricter time constraints
Presence of decoy keywords
Teams must avoid selecting neutral or incorrect words. Incorrect guesses may end the team’s turn or deduct points.
Top performing teams qualify for the final round.
Round 3 — Final Cipher Challenge
The final round features:
A larger keyword grid
Limited hint opportunities
Higher penalties for incorrect guesses
Teams must decode all their assigned secret keywords before their opponents. The team identifying all correct keywords in the least time will be declared the winner.
Scoring Criteria
Teams will be evaluated based on:
Number of correct keywords identified
Accuracy of guesses
Time taken to complete each round
Strategic use of hints
In case of a tie, the team completing the challenge in the shortest time will rank higher.
Rules
Each team must consist of 2–3 members.
One member acts as the Cipher Master while others act as Guessers.
The Cipher Master may give only one-word hints followed by a number.
Hints must logically relate to the hidden keywords.
Cipher Masters cannot say part of the word, spell it, or translate it directly.
Guessers may discuss before selecting words.
Incorrect guesses may end the team's turn or incur penalties depending on the round.
Teams must complete challenges within the specified time limit.
Cheating, external assistance, or rule violations will lead to disqualification.
The decision of the organizing committee and judges will be final and binding.
