Agentic AI is redefining the future of digital interaction, enabling systems that not only understand user intent but act on it with precision and autonomy. As financial technologies evolve, the next breakthrough lies in creating intelligent agents that can execute end to end workflows, reduce user friction and make financial tasks seamless, safe and reliable.
Build an action driven financial agent that can understand natural language commands, navigate a browser like a human and perform complete financial workflows independently. Whether it is paying a bill, buying gold or updating a profile, your agent should demonstrate initiative, awareness, safety and resilience.
To drive this spirit of innovation, Techfest, IIT Bombay, presents the FinAgent Hackathon. This competition challenges students to conceptualize and build a secure, adaptable and intelligent browser based action agent, showcasing the future of automation in finance.*Mandatory registration is required at techfest.org/competitions
Competition Structure
Phase 1: Online Abstract and Design Strategy Submission
To participate, you must submit a proposal that clearly communicates your architecture, reasoning and approach. Your submission must include the following components:
1. Abstract PDF (Maximum 5 Pages)
This document must thoroughly present your concept and technical plan. It should cover:
The Architecture Diagram:A clear diagram showing how your Intent Engine (the Brain) interacts with your Automation Module (the Digital Hand).
Workflow Strategy:A detailed process flow for one task, such as Buying Gold, explaining every step, navigation movement, decision node, error check and recovery strategy.
The Conscious Pause Mechanism:A detailed explanation of how your agent detects high risk actions such as Pay, Transfer or Submit and how your confirmation UI ensures safety before executing.
Tech Stack Selection:A justification for the AI models, automation frameworks and planning tools you choose (e.g., GPT 4o, Playwright, Vision Language Models, Large Action Models).
2. Team Details (Mandatory)
You must provide:
Team name, team ID and member details
GitHub profile links of all members
Links to relevant past projects or technical work
Certificates of past achievements (optional)
Important Notes:Your GitHub profiles must be public. All repositories submitted must belong to your team.Using someone else’s code or repo will lead to disqualification.Mandatory registration is required at techfest.org/competitions.
Phase 2: In Person Live Demo at Techfest, IIT Bombay
Selected teams will be invited for the final round at Techfest 2025.Build:Teams will develop and refine their full web action agent and dummy baking website.
Mentor:Technical and strategic guidance will be provided by domain experts.
Present:Teams will deliver a live demonstration showcasing three end to end financial workflows such as:
Bill Payment
Buying Digital Gold
Updating Profile Information
The agent must run these tasks in real time on your dummy website.
Surprise Command:
Judges may give an unexpected variant of a task, such as:
“Pay a different amount”
“Handle this page loading slowly”
“The button position changed - what happens now?”
This tests the adaptability and resilience of your system.
Final Q&A:
You must be prepared to justify your architecture, safety logic, error handling, hallucination control and overall robustness.
Judging Criteria:Submissions and demos will be evaluated on:Innovation and Originality:Creative and effective approaches to building an intelligent action agent.Agentic Intelligence:How well your agent understands intent, plans tasks and executes actions.Safety and Conscious Pause:Correct use of mandatory confirmation before all sensitive operations.Task Completion Rate:The agent’s ability to complete full workflows reliably.Resilience:Handling of pop ups, slow pages, invalid inputs, unexpected UI changes.Clarity:How clearly and professionally the idea is explained in the abstract and demonstrated live.
