Apply to join the PauseAI UK Organising and Messaging Hackathon on 17-20 April! (I'm only creating this Luma link for any stragglers) Key info: - hybrid volunteer event happening over a weekend in person at my (Matilda's) house in Kent, Hogwarts aka Paws House (because it's a Pausitive house with cats), and online. Hogwarts is ~60-90 min from London on the train. Do note the 'with cats' if you have a severe allergy: 4 sweet Turkish cats live here. - we'll have a social evening and time to settle down on Friday evening and get started Saturday morning. If you can stay overnight Sunday night, please do - it's really nice to have a full day together on the Sunday. - we'll work together on probably 2-3 project tracks depending on the interests and skills of everyone selected to participate. We'll do some chunks of highly focused work mornings and afternoons and relax and socialise at meal times and in the evenings. We have whiteboards, desks, flipchart paper and plenty of couches and bean bag chairs - let's get some great progress done for PauseAI projects and look cosy doing it! You can apply to lead a team. - this is an informal volunteer event. If you're joining in person, it's really helpful if you can chip in for food costs (fine to donate whatever you would normally spend on groceries) - costs ought not prevent anyone from joining, so apply even if you're super broke! - accommodation is sleepover-style! There are 4 bedrooms plus a large lounge and lots of mattresses etc; you'll likely be sharing a room. I have enough bedding etc. for everyone. - I'll make sure there's plenty of nourishing and hopefully tasty vegan food and snacks; everyone contributes to things running smoothly by taking a shift or two of helping in the kitchen or tidying up. - you can stay at Hogwarts to cowork or rest for a few days before or after the hackathon. It's a welcoming house in the countryside with a pretty garden, board games and a wood stove if the weather is more of a cosy hot chocolate sort of scenario. - the main rule of Hogwarts is be nice to the cats - move gently around them and be aware of them and their sensitivities to the extent that you can. You don't have to actively interact with them - just be kind and respectful to them :) - the other rule of Hogwarts is get together to help save the world from AI risk and be excellent to each other. - you don't need to have a volunteering experience/AI safety or other expertise. We want to help build PauseAI, and we also want this event to be enriching for you, so hopefully you'll learn a bunch. I'll be here to coordinate tracks!
