About the Event
How is AI reshaping the physical world around us?
From offices and homes to transport systems and entire neighbourhoods, data and connected technologies are changing how buildings operate, how energy is used, how movement flows, and how cities respond in real time.
What does this look like in practice?
AI in the built environment is already being applied in areas such as:
β’ Office spaces that automatically adjust heating, lighting, and ventilation based on real-time occupancy
β’ Transport systems that predict congestion and dynamically optimise signal timing
β’ Energy grids that forecast neighbourhood demand and balance renewable supply
β’ Residential buildings that detect abnormal energy use and reduce operating costs
β’ District dashboards that simulate how policy changes affect traffic, emissions, or public space usage
β’ "What if" scenario models that help planners test infrastructure decisions before investing
This Build Jam explores how these layers connect β from a single room sensor to a city-wide decision engine.
Build Jam is a collaborative, short-format session focused on AI beyond chatbots and into the environments we live and work in.
Rather than a technical hackathon, this is an interactive evening of shared exploration. Participants will work in small groups using accessible AI tools to develop early-stage ideas and practical concepts, guided by real-world examples from both the UK and Taiwan.
Inspiration from the UK and Taiwan
π€ Roy Lin β City AI, Taipei Urban Intelligence Center Sharing how city-scale data and modelling can support smarter infrastructure and policy decisions.
π€ Ian Tsern β Chung-En Tsern is a Data Scientist at Urban Intelligence Lab (Urban Initiatives). He specialises in applying data science and AI within urban infrastructures and strategic masterplans. Bringing a practitionerβs lens to R&D, Chung-En focuses on transforming complex urban data into actionable intelligence for global, large-scale projects.
π€ Paul Sheedy β Founder of unifi.id and director of the Golden Thread Taskforce. Demonstrating real-time and predictive analysis of occupancy and how buildings should be working, to minimise energy wastage and deliver data driven risk reduction.
Together, these perspectives connect room-level insight with district and city-wide thinking.
As both Taiwan and the UK advance in applied AI and connected environments, this session creates space to explore how sensing, data, and AI interact across layers.
In the spirit of collaboration over competition, the emphasis is on exchange, experimentation, and learning across ecosystems.
