Meta PyTorch OpenEnv Hackathon x Scaler School of Technology is India's largest AI hackathon, built on Meta's OpenEnv, the open-source framework powering the next generation of AI agents, used by leading AI labs worldwide. Organised in partnership with Meta, Hugging Face, PyTorch, and Scaler School of Technology, Bangalore, this hackathon gives you the chance to build real reinforcement learning environments and potentially land a direct interview opportunity with Meta and Hugging Face.
$30,000 prize pool, mentorship from Meta, Hugging Face, and PyTorch engineers, plus interview opportunities.
A two-round hackathon running from March 14 to April 26, 2026, focused on real-world problem-solving.
Includes structured learning, hands-on development, and industry-level evaluation.

Round 1:
Register individually and form teams of up to 3 members.
Choose one problem statement from 200+ challenges by Meta.
Build a Mini Reinforcement Learning (RL) environment using OpenEnv.
Submit
Public GitHub repo (code, README, requirements, demo script.
Hugging Face Spaces demo link.
Submissions can be updated multiple times until the deadline; only the final submitted version will be evaluated.
Evaluation based on correctness, OpenEnv compliance, task design, reward logic, and code quality.
Top 2,000–3,000 teams advance to the final round.
Round 2:
A 48-hour in-person finale round at Scaler School of Technology, Bangalore (April 25–26, 2026).
Build advanced solutions with mentorship from Meta engineers
Get AI credits (up to $200/team), expert sessions, and on-ground support
Develop and present a working solution by the end
Finalists present to judges from Meta and partner organisations
Results announced at the end of the hackathon

Eligibility:
Open to individuals of all age groups.
Open to college students pursuing any tech or relevant program across India, early-career tech professionals, and AI enthusiasts from anywhere in India.
No prior experience in Reinforcement Learning is required; free prep courses are provided at every stage.
Basic Python familiarity, some ML knowledge, and comfort using GitHub are the only prerequisites. If you have built anything in Python before, you are ready.
Participants from different colleges or companies can form teams together.
Cross-campus and cross-company teams are fully allowed.
Team Rules:
Teams can have 1, 2, or 3 members.
Every participant must register individually first.
Once all members have registered, the Team Leader forms the team by entering teammates' registered email IDs in the team formation form before Round 1 begins.
Each registered participant receives an invite on their dashboard to join the team, which must be accepted to confirm.
Once a team is confirmed, it cannot be changed; team assignments are permanent.
Solo participants who advance to the Final Round will be matched with other qualifying solo participants to form teams for the in-person finale.
Rules & Regulations:
Participants must bring their own laptops, chargers, and devices.
Internet access will be provided.
Team size must be between 1 and 3 members.
Pre-built projects are not allowed. All code must be written during the hackathon (libraries/frameworks permitted).
Teams must present a working prototype at the end.
Participants must stay on campus during round 2.
Teams must adhere to deadlines and submission formats.
Participants qualifying for Round 2 may arrange their accommodation independently based on their preferences, as accommodation will not be provided.
Participants must register individually before forming teams.
The decision of judges will be final.

Step 3: All invited members must accept the team invitation to confirm the team formation.
Step 4: After completing the above steps, you will receive a confirmation email.
Step 5: Open the email and click on the provided link to be redirected to our website.

Disqualification Criteria:
Plagiarism or copying code from external sources
Submitting incomplete, invalid, or non-functional projects
Not following OpenEnv standards or submission requirements
Misconduct or disruptive behaviour during the hackathon

Any additional accessories required for your project setup
Note: Participants are welcome to explore nearby accommodation options or make stay arrangements based on their preference.

Participants will get access to free preparatory courses, mentorship sessions, and a dedicated community from Day 1.
Shortlisted teams will also attend an advanced RL bootcamp before the final round.
